Promptello ("the extension") is a Chrome browser extension that helps you turn rough ideas into structured AI prompts.
Summary
Promptello does not collect, transmit, sell, or store any of your data on our servers — because we don't have any servers. Everything happens locally, in your own browser.
What data Promptello touches, and where it stays
- Your ideas, prompts, settings, and prompt history are stored only in your browser's local storage (
chrome.storage.local), on your own device. They are never sent anywhere.
- Page capture. When you click "Capture page," Promptello reads the content of your active tab — only that tab, only at that moment, and only because you asked it to (your browser prompts you for that site's permission the first time you use it). Captured text is used solely to build your prompt and stays in local storage with everything else.
- On-device AI (optional). If your browser supports Chrome's built-in Gemini Nano (Prompt API), Promptello may use it to polish your prompt. This processing happens entirely on your device — nothing is sent to Google, Anthropic, or anyone else by Promptello.
- Sending to AI chat sites. When you click "Enhance & Send," Promptello inserts your prompt into the composer of a supported AI chat site (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity) that's already open in your browser. It does not submit anything on your behalf — you review and send it yourself. Whatever you choose to send is then subject to that site's own privacy policy, not ours.
What we don't do
- No accounts, no sign-up, no login.
- No analytics, no tracking, no advertising identifiers.
- No data is sold or shared with third parties.
- No data leaves your device through the extension.
Permissions, in plain English
- storage — to save your prompt and settings locally.
- sidePanel — to show the extension's interface.
- activeTab / scripting — to read the current page only when you click "Capture page," and to insert text into the AI chat composer only when you click "Enhance & Send."
- tabs — to detect whether your active tab is a supported AI chat site.
- Host permissions for chatgpt.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com, and perplexity.ai — required to insert your prompt into those sites' composers.
